The 108th Myopia Horse Show is presented by William A. Berry & Son, Inc.

Welcome to the 2008 Myopia Horse Show web site! We are very excited about our 108th annual horse show, and plan to build on the success of last year’s show. While striving to preserve our rich tradition of sporting hunters and show jumpers, we continue to add fresh, new features including Derby Cross. Held Labor Day weekend, the two day show has become the premier sporting and social event on Boston’s North Shore.

This year our showgrounds in Hamilton, Massachussetts has expanded to include the Grand Prix Jump Field. We now have space to add more classes, accommodate more spectators and vendors, and invite more patrons for our ringside luncheon.

The Myopia Horse Show will again hold an opening cocktail party for all sponsors, patrons, and competitors under the Patrons’ Tent on Saturday, August 30th. This year, a Calcutta will be held to offer betting on your favorite Derby Cross team or Mini-Prix show jumper.

Sunday, August 31st is family day with tailgate picnicking and terrier races as well as the favorite Dog Costume Class. Sporting Hunter classes and low jumper classes are offered as well as the addition of two Derby Cross divisions for novice and beginner novice riders.

On Monday, Sept. 1st, the horse show features show jumping, including our $5,000 Mini Prix class which attracts top level riders. This year, we are adding a $5,000 Derby Cross Open division as well. Derby Cross is the exciting new sport of team racing over a combination of cross country and show jumps, all set to music. It was so popular last year among both spectators and competitors, that Derby Cross is becoming the Myopia Horse Show’s signature event!

Sponsors and patrons watch these exciting classes from the Patrons’ Tent while enjoying the gourmet luncheon prepared by Timothy Hopkins Catering. Fine wines as well as the traditional Pimms’ Cup is served. This year, a ladies’ hat contest will add to the festivities.

Myopia Horse Show donates a share of the proceeds to local land organizations in our effort to help preserve open land such as Appleton Farms, Bradley Palmer State Park, and the Essex County Trails. We hope you will join us!
